As become the norm, every Marvel release tells one or two parts of a long and winding story, and this film leaves the audience with questions of things gone and to come.
Again, I must warn you that this article is full of spoilers, so SPOILER ARLET!
Let’s get into it, below are some of the burning questions to come out of lead contender for 2021’s Film of the Year.
1. What is next for Sony and Holland’s Spiderman?
One of the many successes of ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ is that it left the door open for both Sony and Holland‘s future in the MCU.
Holland is already on record saying that he does not want to overstay his welcome as Peter Parker, and the release of ‘No way Home’ was the last of his contractual obligations.
However, talks between Marvel and Sony are still ongoing.
Both should know that this partnership is ‘great for business, with the film breaking records already on the box office.
If this is to be the end of both, then so be it.
I don’t think it could have done any better.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr Strange altering the spell and making the whole world forget Peter Parker wipes the slate clean without undoing the work of the previous films.
Also, Spiderman still exists, albeit in the shadows, and there are a few characters that know about Parker’s existence being in outer space at the time of the spell.
This certainly is a reach, as far as loopholes go, but Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) can still come and reintroduce Parker to the Avengers should the need arise.
Only time will tell as to the direction of both Holland and Sony go
2.What does that Charlie Cox cameo mean for the rest of the Netflix shows?
With so many returns and surprise cameo, Easter eggs, and whatnot going on in the film, the one that has gone under the radar was Charlie Cox reprising his Matt Murdock aka Daredevil persona.
It’s unfortunate that he doesn’t put on the costume, Cox does enough to whet the appetite and leave people guessing.
With Vincent D’Onofrio having made his debut as Kingpin in the Disney Plus show ‘Hawkeye’, does this mean we can expect more characters from the Netflix shows or this was a one-and-done fan service thing?
The mere existence of Murdock and Kingpin in the MCU is proof that shows like Daredevil, Punisher, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones do exist within the Marvel canon.
Now, it’s just a matter of the Marvel executives and writers creating space for them.
Whether they do or not, again, only time will tell.
3. Who was that evil Dr Strange and what role will he play in “Dr Strange In Multiverse of Madness”?
Of late post-credit scenes have become a thing, and I make it a point to wait until the credits roll and there is nothing but darkness when I go to the movies.
“No way Home delivers again in that department, with the film’s post-credit scene doing a great job in setting up Marvel’s next project.
Apart from re-introducing Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and showing us the first appearance of Wanda Maximoff, we also see a new character that the internet has named ‘evil Dr Strange’.
Who he is and what role he will play in the Dr Strange sequel is sure to be the main topic of discussion once this Spiderman euphoria wears down.
I am sure of it.
Zendaya’s performance as Michelle “MJ’ Jones has been roughly the only notable thing about this character.
She has had the role on lock from day one, as the kids say these days, demonstrating great chemistry with her co-stars and sprinkling little bits of her actual character into the role.
It was enough to make us forget that she was not really the Mary Jane Watson we know from the comic books.
However, now we know her actual last name is Watson, and Jones is actually her mother’s last name.
The question here is why she changed it and is there any relation to the actual Mary Jane Watson from this reality?
It remains to be seen if we will get the fourth and last Spiderman solo movie from Marvel, but should we get it I hope Zendaya is in it and we get answers to these questions.
Still, on the topic of MJs, we also find out that Garfield’s Spiderman is still suffering from the loss of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) in the “Amazing Spiderman”.
That loss allows him to connect to Holland’s Peter Parker after his own loss, and he reveals that he all but gave up on love after that.
The question many are left pondering here is whether or not he will heal and find his own MJ.
This would make for a wonderful full-circle, especially after Garfield and Maguire’s little heart-to-heart on the subject of love
5.Was this a one-and-done meeting?
Based on the hype, it should come as little surprise the meeting of the three Spiderman actors is box office gold.
With the multiverse now a thing in the MCU, and due to be explored more in the Dr Strange sequel, is there a possibility of another team-up between these actors?
Garfield clearly seemed to have a great time reprising the role, and Tobey Maguire too.
There was also a lot of bromance going on there, so why not make another one?
