Here Is Why PSC Will Investigate DJ Shimza

Dj Shimza will be investigated by the Public Service Commission (PSC) regarding his popular restaurant, Hang Awt, based in Tembisa, following Somizi Mhlongo’s controversial cook-off event early this year.

According to the SowetanLive, the restaurant reportedly scored a R150,000 deal with the government to host a cook-off.

It is alleged that there is no record of the restaurant putting in a tender application for the gig.

Following the event, the Ministry of Tourism received a lot of backlash for lacking a sense of priority.

With the Covid-19 pandemic in mind, some citizens felt it was not fair for the ministry to choose to spend money on a cook-off event with rich celebrities instead of supporting those who were struggling.

The Covid-19 pandemic did not spare the tourism and hospitality industries; hence, citizens felt a need to play the cards very well.

However, the then Minister of Tourism, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, defended the event saying that celebrity cook-offs are a popular trend worldwide, and asked critics to look at how successful the trend had been in other locations.

She took to her Twitter account and wrote:

“I will hosting this event with ⁦@somizi⁩ & actually request those who criticise this event to go and check Celebrity Cook shows which is a global trend. We commit to work with all SAns in rebuilding the Tourism Sector #TourismRecovery
This event is the last pre-budget event we are hosting since last week. Do you have feedback on other events that we held so that we can use this as part of the debriefing session with the team. If you didn’t notice other events also do indicate 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽”
